How to Add Review Feature/Widget on Facebook Page

Adding rating & review feature on Facebook page is easy for those people who already know the process but it was not easy for me when I was trying to add this wonderful feature on my Facebook page. I didn’t know that to add Review system on my page I had to choose my page category as “Local Business“. Previously it was set to “Companies & Organizations“! That’s why I was unable to add ratings & review feature on my Facebook page.

In this tutorial I am going to show you how to add review feature/widget on Facebook page. Please check following steps very carefully:

Step 1: Log in to Facebook and go to your Facebook page. My page URL is: https://www.facebook.com/pages/SEO-Service-Provider/1481221468793732

Step 2: Click on the “About” tab that is situated just underneath your Page’s cover photo
Click on About underneath your Banner

Step 3: Mouse hover to the Page Info -> Category and click on “Edit”
Page Info Category Edit

Step 4: As I already said, to add ratings & review feature to your Facebook page, your page category has to be “Local Businesses“. So select “Local Businesses”
Select Local Businesses

Step 5: Select subcategory that suits your business the most. In my example, I have chosen “Professional services“.
Select the category that suits your business the most

Step 6: Click to edit the Address section
Click on the Address

Step 7: Add your business address (in my case it’s 271/Kha…) and click to check the box next to Show map, check-ins and star ratings on the Page
I can't see Map option
It’s not appearing on my side! I don’t know why? I have checked several posts about this issue and it seems a Facebook bug or something, I am not quite sure. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. I asked for expert help about this and there are many people facing check-ins and star ratings issue.
Problems with Check Ins

Step 8: Click “Save Changes”.

It’s done! If you change your Page’s address later, you would not lose any existing ratings or reviews. So don’t worry!

Its good if you add as much information as you can for your Facebook page. People will get to know your business better.
As much information needed

Hope this helps. If you faced check-ins and star ratings issue don’t forget to share through comments!

Important Tips to Increase Click Through Rate on Facebook

About Facebook

Facebook has become very popular in a very short time. From being used just for fun and get information about other people, Facebook has now become more serious and business oriented. Now-a-days we share photos and moments of our life in Facebook & our friends get instant notification about these updates. You can press “like” button on someone’s photo or post to show that you appreciate/like their update. Moreover, you can comment on those posts or share them within your circle.

You are able to discuss different topics and you can get to know new people and keep contact to your local as well as remote friends who are living in a different country, city or state for some reasons. Nowadays, companies have started to create a profile on Facebook to reach out to more customers.

What Do We All Have in Common? What Do We Want the Most?

When it comes to Facebook, we all want to be seen and heard. Therefore, we want to get most likes and shared status. This article will provide you few tips to increase click through rate on Facebook. Also, how to get more likes and shared photos and status.

Call-to-Action Button

Call to Action Button
When posting a picture to your Facebook wall, you should post a call to action button looking like a normal picture. Adding a few sentence with your own opinion above it, you will probably get more clicks.

Linking

When you are going to post a link, you should not just copy & paste the link specially when you expect more clicks on this link. You should also write a few sentence what’s the link about. This will make the post look more professional and people will be interested to click on the link.

What Should You Think About When Posting an Image, Link or Status?

Post an update that contains something red – According to some researches, red attracts many people. But remember, this is in general and may not work for you. Moreover, don’t use too much red or any solid color.

Contrast – For most websites, the picture with high contrast is most attractive. But this theory doesn’t apply on Facebook. On Facebook, the pictures that blend in the most, is most attractive and tend to get more likes.

Peoples interest – When posting something, you should think about what group of people you want to click on your status, image or link. Posting a status about pregnancy or children will attract parents for example.

Less characters the more likes – It is actually true that the less characters you write in your posts will get you more likes and click through rates. People like when you keep it short and simple.

There are many things to think about when you post something on Facebook and you want to get more likes or increase the click through rates. But it is not hard but quite easy if you think about it.

Think like an audience: What would you be interested in clicking at? What kind of images attract you? Make a list of these things and keep the list above in your mind while posting and soon you will find that you are getting more likes and higher click through rates. Hope this helps. If you have something to add please feel free to share through comments.

Benefits of HTTPs over HTTP?

What are the Benefits of HTTPs over HTTP?

Without HTTPs Alert by SEO Blog
Have you moved your website to HTTPS? If not, then you can make the shift as Google has probably considered it as a ranking signal. So, I believe it’s time to redirect your website from HTTP to HTTPs and update all pages with canonical tags or .htaccess file edit, shifting the incoming external links, and deploying the protocol independent URLs. Besides ranking signal, there are other benefits of having HTTPs instead of HTTP.

Provides Website Security and Protection

First, HTTPs plays an essential role in saving your website from hackers. HTTPs provides more web security as compare to HTTP as it uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). So, while deploying HTTPs, you can ensure your website users about the security regarding their personal data (in case they make any online purchase or fill in information at the time of subscribing to your website, newsletter, blog etc.).

For instance, if you own an e-commerce website, it would be most important for you to build credibility and reliability by offering data protection to your online customers as they need to make money transfers for their chosen products or services. In this situation, you must go for HTTPs rather than HTTP.

Secure DNS Infrastructure

Second, HTTPs can offer secure DNS infrastructure to a large extent as compare to HTTP. On the contrary, HTTP does not offer the same level of security about DNS infrastructure.

The encryption in HTTPs provides a number of benefits including integrity, identity, and confidentiality. Moreover, integrity protects the information from being altered without your knowledge. Whereas, lack of encryption in HTTP does not offer you integrity and confidentiality. It means that you are inadvertently giving controls to your keyboard. You can understand in such a way that either you are sharing photos on Facebook (HTTPs) with security controls or giving control to someone to share your photos on Facebook (HTTP).
Without Https alert on Safari by SEO Blog

Higher Security for Browsers

Third, HTTPs offers more security to browsers as compare to HTTP. It means that you can offer fewer opportunities (tracking, attacks etc.) to hackers while using HTTPs as a communication and server channel. For instance, let’s take an example of Facebook. A few years before, Facebook served its login page as HTTP. Hence, the hackers from the Middle East injected a JavaScript to steal the user’s passwords from login page. As a result, Facebook accounts were being compromised as Facebook login page was running on HTTP. After that Facebook implemented HTTPs and they will never move to HTTP for sure!
Facebook With HTTP

Conclusion

In the conclusion, I believe that you must use HTTPs over HTTP if you are running e-commerce website(s) or a site where you accept online payments from your visitors. Though, a few years ago, it was expensive and rare, but at present, the situation has turned. Now, you can take a SSL certificate for few dollars. So don’t wait and grab an SSL certificate to offer a secure and hacker-free experience to your customers.

Say Goodbye to Google PageRank Toolbar!

Important: In our previous article we describe how to setup Google Toolbar to check PageRank and Search Terms. If you don’t know about Google Toolbar or PageRank Toolbar, you should check that article.

Say Goodbye to Google PageRank Toolbar! Yes, it is time to say Goodbye PageRank Toolbar. We, the SEO experts will surely miss Google PageRank Toolbar!

We are not going to update you again. This is what Google has stated about PageRank Toolbar. So, if you are still hoping that Google will update PageRank Toolbar soon, I strongly propose you to give up this hope.

I mean, do you still think that you have a purpose to rely on PageRank Tool for your website ranking? Frankly speaking, it has been very clear from Google’s John Muller briefings that PageRank Toolbar is dead. As he stated
It has been a year we have not updated PageRank Toolbar altogether, we are not going to update again. And, we have no further plans actually

So, it has been very obvious from John Muller’s statement that Google has no further plans to do more updates regarding Page Rank Toolbar. The last PageRank Toolbar update (that was done a year ago) was solely the results of some minor changes. If you just ignore that update then for two years Google has not been offering a legitimate update. Anyway, it has been longer to consider PageRank a legitimate metric in the industry.

On the other hand, Matt Cutts (head of search spam at Google) already stated a year ago that
PageRank has no longer value for your website. Over time, the PageRank would get less usage as both the versions of Chrome and Internet Explorer do not let you to install toolbars easily.

Well, the phasing out of Toolbar is barely a surprise. So, leave relying on PageRank Toolbar and focus on other metrics that actually can bring positive results for your website. For now, you must not consider PageRank as a metric. You must think about other metrics (bounce rates, conversion rates, click through rates) rather than PageRank.

Besides, you must brainstorm why you want users on your website. Or, what you want from users to do on your website. While, considering this idea, you can consider a meaningful and actionable metric for that. For instance, you want a particular action (suppose, you want clicks) from your users then, you must consider click through rate as a metric as this metric can give you the real results that you actually want.

As Pagerank Toolbar algorithm will not be updated by Google so if your website’s pagerank is 5, it will be PR 5 forever! Similarly, our website’s PR is only 1, according to our calculation it should be around 3-5 but it will be PR 1 forever! This latest Google Pagerank toolbar announcement is very good for those website owners who had high PR website in early 2014 and stopped updating contents but somehow managed to keep it alive, they will be surely enjoying same PR throughout this year and upcoming years! What should I say? This is injustice or they are lucky?

If you still wish, Google should continue to update PageRank Toolbar then let us know the reasons via comments.

How I Remove Spam Injected Link from My WordPress Blog

Did you ever notice a link on your WordPress website or blog that you didn’t put by yourself? Did you face the fear that your website or blog might be hacked by some unknown hacker(s)? Can you share your experience here? I mean, how do you feel at that time? Yesterday night I found a link just under the “Search Form” section of this blog. I didn’t put that link there so I had no idea how that link appeared on that place! I was 100% sure my blog was injected with some malicious code :(. I was angry and of course frightened last night. I never tried to hurt someone with this blog so why one would try to inject my blog? I am working too hard on this blog, you know that right? Anyway, in this post I am going to show you how I remove spam injected link from my wordpress blog.

Today, I leave all my tasks and sit down to fix this error. First, I mouse over on that link, right click on the mouse and click on “Inspect Element” to see the source code on my browser. I can clearly see the link was placed in searchform.php file but actually it was not there! I log in to my blog and from the editor panel I check searchform.php file but it was fresh! No ugly hash code was there. Then I noticed there were several updates required (4 plugins and 4 theme updates). I had WordPress 4.0.1 installed and needed to update it to 4.1. I updated it from 4.0.1 to 4.1 then I deleted all browser cookies (history) and refreshed the blog but spam link was still there. I then deactivated all the plugins and again deleted all browser cookies and refreshed the home page but unfortunately spam link was still there. That time, I started update the plugins and activating one by one. Each time I was clearing my browser cookies and refreshing the page hoping to see the link gone but no luck! At that stage, I got the picture – surely it’s not plugin or update issue.

So I started searching on Google to fix this issue. I found one blog post that was really helpful. Here is the link: How To Scan Your WordPress Website For Hidden Malware

After reading that post I scanned my blog here: http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/ but it didn’t show anything suspicious for my blog. Hackers are very intelligent (I have respect for white hat hackers), free site check up tools sometime fail to track the malicious codes.

No Malware Detected by Sucuri

As I didn’t get anything fruitful, I installed “Theme Authenticity Checker (TAC)” plugin (This plugin can scan all of your theme files for potentially malicious or unwanted code). With the help of TAC tool, I got a trace of a file called “timthumb.php” having base64 code (While I was searching in Google, I read many articles and came to know about base64 code). I removed that file by using Filezilla

With a great hope, I deleted again all my browser cookies and refreshed the page but that ugly link was still there! I was shocked and had no idea what to do next. Definitely there were other files affected as well. So I installed another WordPress plugin called “WP Antivirus Site Protection” and scanned my blog. This plugin scanned my whole site and like “SUCURI” it didn’t find anything suspicious.
WP Antivirus Scan Results by SEO Blog
But it showed a message:
Please note: Hackers can inject malware codes inside of the normal files. If you delete these files, website can stop to work or will be not stable. We advice to send request to SiteGuarding.com for file review and analyze.
So I contacted SiteGuarding.com and they were asking me to upgrade. After the upgrade they would manually search my files and prevent all injected files/codes. I forgot to mention one thing earlier, I contacted Sucuri.net support team as well to check my blog and fix the issues but they replied same thing like SiteGuarding.com

Both SiteGuarding.com and Sucuri.net are very reputed and millions of users around the world are using their services to protect their websites, blogs, and forums from Hacking, Brute Force or DDOS attacks but I just didn’t want to take an instant decision. Moreover, I wanted to fix this thing by my own! I want to learn the new thing! Hopefully I will choose either one of them for my blogs and websites in the future but not today (to be honest I don’t have the budget to upgrade now!).

Though SiteGuarding didn’t give me exact information about malicious code containing files but I got an idea which files I need to check manually.

Fortunately, I had back up copy of my server files (took full backup several weeks ago, in the meantime I had uploaded several new blog posts. I didn’t want to upload old back ups and re-effort on those posts. Moreover, I wanted to solve this problem) and I downloaded these up to date files into a new folder. I then installed Winmerge software in my laptop. WinMerge is an open source sofware from sourceforge.net. It is basically a differencing and merging tool for Windows – able to do comparisons visually, and makes it easy to merge documents.

After installing Winmerge, I started to check my newly downloaded files with the old ones. Please note, I had updated my plugins and themes this morning so some changes were expected. I compared the old files with the new files but didn’t see any suspicious codes.

As I was unable to find the error codes, I again installed a new wordpress security plugin called: “Antivirus” – Antivirus is a free plugin which can scan website theme files every day for malicious code or spam. Like other security plugins, Antivirus didn’t find anything suspicious for my blog!

I then started checking my template files manually from Admin Dashboard -> Appearance -> Editor panel. I was searching for that suspicious link and when I opened functions.php file I got the ANSWER! Please note, I didn’t see the spam link (that I was searching for in each file under Editor panel) but I saw base64 type codes. As I had previous back up copy of fuctions.php file, I checked my old functions.php with the new one and found my guess was right! Moreover, I saw two new files in the editor panel (League_Gothic-webfont_new.php and prettyphoto_indesit.php) and surprisingly these two files were not showing in Filezilla (I closed filezilla and logged in again to recheck + I reconnected several times). These two files were actually hidden under Font folder and CSS folder that I traced from the Editor panel. As far as I know, Font folder and CSS folder should not contain any .php or .html files. So I removed those two files from Font folder and CSS folder. After that I uploaded old functions.php file and refresh the page with a lot of hope. Finally that link was gone! I was feeling very happy & lucky at that stage. My hours of research is now successful. After seeing the link is gone, I immediately change my WordPress Admin as well as FTP password. I thought to share this experience with you guys. Hopefully this post will help many people facing similar problem. However, it’s not the end. I might face same trouble in the future (I truly wish not) and I can take a look at this post to get help.

Lastly, I want to say, I am not a coder nor specialist in tracking suspicious codes. I think I was bit lucky to fix this. I didn’t delete any files unnecessarily and I took all steps very carefully. I want to suggest you please don’t follow my steps and don’t delete any files without depth monitoring. Because if you do so, your website might stop working or become unstable. Choice is totally yours. To save your time and remain stress free you can take service from Sucuri.net or SiteGuarding.com. Like I said before, I wanted to solve this problem by my own and had some budget issue so I left all my ongoing tasks and put my effort to solve this, but surely I will take Website Firewall from Sucuri.net or SiteGuarding.com in the future.

How to Create an SEO Optimized Page

Certainly, it is a very challenging probe for many SEO and marketing experts. As more than 200 factors are present that Google or any other search engine considers at the time of ranking a website. So, it is very essential to know which ones are the most important in creating an SEO optimized page or which factors play an imperative role in improving your website ranking.

In order to assist you in creating an effective SEO optimized page, I have created a checklist that offers some workable strategies in building an SEO optimized page. Let’s discuss them.

Deploy SEO-Friendly Domain and URL Extension

Using keywords in domains and URL extensions is still a workable SEO strategy. For instance, check our domain. We are “SEO Service Provider” company and we picked “SEO-Service-Provider.Org” domain intentionally! It’s not exact (seoserviceprovider) nor irrelevant with our niche. Many SEO experts question us through social media why double hyphen in the domain? It would be difficult for us to rank any keyword(s). But we prove them wrong, if you search with “SEO Service Provider” in Google.com then you will see our site at number 2 position (as on 12-12-2014). In our opinion, we are not using too many hyphens (but only two) or keywords like Effective-SEO-Ranking-Strategy-2015 or how-to-get-rich-quickly.com so why Google will not rank us?

Now let me come to the URL extension. Please check this post URL: http://www.seo-service-provider.org/how-to-create-an-seo-optimized-page
Don’t you think it’s a good tactic? We have used post title in URL extension to give an idea to both our visitors and Google what’s this page about.

Create an Optimized Title for Your Content

Besides your webpage’s content, the second most imperative part of webpage’s content is your title tag. As it proves to be a strong on-page optimization signal. To have better performance, start your title tag with keyword rather than using keyword at the end of title tag.

Alongside, keep your webpage’s title tag under/within 55 characters as Google displays almost 50-60 characters of title. For example, for this post we have only 35 characters title: “How to Create an SEO Optimized Page

Use Visual Media

Visual media optimization plays an important role in getting Google attention. For instance, on-page visual media (image or video) sends relevancy signals through its alt text, description, caption, title, and file name. Overall, visual media optimization helps to increase on-site time and in turn, decrease bounce rate.

Create Outbound Links

There are many SEO novice think that outbound links are bad for SEO. I don’t understand them! Don’t they know about nofollow tag or they don’t know how to use them? Just leave the concept of nofollow tag, what’s wrong if I put dofollow outbound link(s) where it seems necessary? What will happen as long as I am not trying to manipulate my contents with irrelevant and spammy links? Will Google penalize my website for having high authority outbound dofollow reference links in my content(s)? Well my answer is “NEVER“. Google can gain relevancy signal about your website’s pages if you put valuable reference links. Additionally, it can easily figure out what’s your page about.

Despite the fact that outbound links help, one thing I need to mention – Do not use too many links as it can distract the user from the main content.

Use relevant keywords in the introduction part of your web page

Using keywords in the first 100-150 words of the webpage proves to be an essential strategy to create an SEO optimized page. But make sure to use highly relevant keywords.

Optimize Your Web Page for Social Sharing

Adding social buttons (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Tumblr, etc.) will help your website’s page to receive inbound links (People will share your content and their friends, followers might follow your content. Some of them might link/distribute your content through their blogs, websites or forums). Links are a great source of increasing website ranking.

Improve Webpage Loading Speed

Page Loading Speed is an important SEO strategy. For instance, people do not like to visit websites and webpages that take more than four seconds to open. Alternatively, by improving your website’s loading speed below four seconds, you can increase re-visit time of your website.

I hope that you will find these techniques helpful in creating a highly SEO optimized page. These are the very basic techniques I cover. But there are many techniques that aren’t covered by this post. So please share any other technique that you are using for your website and are not mentioned here.

In 2015, Facebook collects information that you provide while signing up an account on Facebook, communicating, sharing, or messaging with others. For instance, you share a photo with your friends so, Facebook would collect information about the location of that photo or the time or date at which it was created.

Besides, it collects information about how you utilize its services including the kinds of content you engage, duration, and frequency of your activities. As it would collect information to which people and groups, you are connected and how frequently you interact with them. Moreover, if you make any financial transaction on Facebook (purchasing or making a donation etc.), it collects your payment information including debit card or credit card number, billing, contact details, shipping information etc.

On the other side, it would also collect information as how other people communicate with you. For instance, it collects all information when your friends send a message or share a photo with you. For instance, it would collect information about your device attributes including operating system, device settings, battery, hardware version, software names, GPS, Wi-Fi signals, Bluetooth, language, time zone, IP address, browser type, mobile number etc.

Overall, Facebook knows about you and your activities that you will do on Facebook.

Now You Have More Control Over Facebook Ads

With the updated policies and terms of Facebook, it has become easier for you to see the ads of your interests and opt out ads that you do not want to see ever.

Regardless of using multiple browsers or devices, the ads viewing settings will apply and remain same across all the devices (Phone, computer, laptop etc.) that you use to access Facebook. So, you have to make a single choice about the ads viewing settings and that choice will automatically apply to every accessible device.

You Can Do Privacy Checkups in a While

Now, you can easily check the privacy of any post that you are going to share with your friends. At the time of sharing any post, a pop up would alert and ask about your privacy settings, as either you want to share this post with friends or public. Overall, it would be easier to overview the privacy settings within seconds.

Hope these Facebook updates or changes would improve your experience. As these updates are meant to protect your information while offering meaningful privacy controls. So, enjoy the new privacy controls.

Steps to Follow Before Hiring an SEO Agency

Hiring an SEO agency is not an easy job rather it poses a challenge for website owners. Choosing a wrong SEO agency may ruin your time, money, and site reputation. Anyhow, if you want to make your website search engine friendly while improving your website ranking, then hire a right SEO agency.

Here are some steps that can assist you in selecting the right SEO agency for your website.

Educate Yourself

Prior hiring an SEO agency, you will have to do research first. For instance, you can research regarding the overall process of SEO campaign as what can or cannot be achieved with an appropriate SEO campaign. Educating yourself regarding SEO will assist you to weed out the unethical companies that do not understand the SEO standards of search engines. For instance, some unethical SEO agencies use unfair means to increase the website rankings.

Thorough Background Checking

After educating yourself regarding SEO, it is a time to develop an understanding of industry standards while checking a few SEO agencies. At the meanwhile, you must do a detail background checking on a few factors including agency’s experience, ranking, SEO techniques (white hat or black hat) etc. Let’s discuss these factors one by one.

• Ensure that the SEO agency must has a high level of experience (5-10 years) and understands the search engine standards. Besides, the hiring SEO agency must be adaptable to the search engine changes including algorithm, tools, channels etc.

• Make sure that the SEO agency has high ranking on search engine results as if it does not has high ranking then how you can expect it to increase your website ranking.

• Check case studies and testimonials of the hiring SEO agency to analyze its performance.

• Confirm that the SEO Company properly uses white hat techniques instead of black hat techniques as these techniques can ban your website in long run. You can straightforwardly ask from SEO agency about the using of black hat techniques for your website. If they say yes, then run away.

Set Up a Proper Internal Communication Platform

After conducting the background checking, it is a great idea to set up a proper internal communication platform that communicates or contacts with the hiring SEO agency. By setting up a proper communication structure, you can save time and money and in turn, avoid frustration. For instance, you will select your firms point of contact for contacting with the SEO agency. After that, you can involve a few employees (web designer, programmer, server admin etc.) who contact with the SEO agency and speed up the process of SEO.

Estimate your budget

After setting up a proper internal structure, you will estimate budget spending that would require in hiring an SEO agency. The best way to estimate budget is to set a price range rather than analyzing a fixed budget price. With this idea, you can fix and prioritize your website needs with the hired SEO agency. For instance, the hired SEO agency can offer an SEO package within your budget range. Overall, with a clear budget range, you can definitely achieve your SEO website goals.

Well, these steps are primarily essential for selecting the right SEO agency, but believe me or not, no one can guarantee you #1 ranking on Google. SEO agency can try to manipulate search engine results to bring your website ranking up to the top, but there is no guarantee that it will happen in a certain period for high competitive keywords. SEO is a continuous and well governed process that probably takes time. So, you must have patience if you want to deploy the right SEO agency as the patience will definitely result in good ranking of your website.

SEO Ranking Strategy

Is SEO dead? Nowadays, it is a general query within the digital marketing world.

If your business largely depends on a robust online customer base, then you must be adaptable to SEO changes. It is unquestionable that SEO ranking settings are probably changing.

Google is adopting a hard-hitting approach. If you are generating a poor quality content, building shady links and ignoring blogging and social connection for your business website, you are in a wrong direction. For these mistakes, your website would be penalized by search engines. So, leave your past behind and think about your business future. Because, these mistakes may hurt your business now.

SEO Ranking Strategy

Today, Google considers different elements to give a high ranking in the search results. So, an effective SEO ranking strategy incorporates various elements including quality content, guest blogging, social media integration, link building, and mobile optimization.

Well, if you want a prosperous business in 2015, you must adjust your SEO ranking strategy according to the requirements of a search engine. Here is a closer look at current SEO trends, which will perhaps figure out your business success.

Create Quality Content for Your Website

Search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo etc.) love content that is relevant, fresh, timely, and influential. That’s why, content is king for search engines. Creating quality content not only ranks keywords, but also somewhat educates consumers while giving a positive user experience.

One of the biggest challenge of current SEO is to create the relevant content that purposefully relates to your business.
Cheers! There is no need to worry about; this challenge can overcome. You would only create the website content around the keywords of your business and main topics. In other words, you would create search friendly and compelling content that go a long way helps searchers to find your website conveniently. You will have to start with a list of relevant keywords (that relates with your products, services, business, and target location) to create search friendly content.

Further, you can populate your website pages with metadata along with significant keywords as well as accurate descriptions of website content. This tactic would definitely improve how speedily Google would match your website content with localized & particular searches while increasing your website ranking on organic search results.

Do Guest Blogging for Your Website

You can opt for guest blogging as a SEO tactic if you want to build inbound links and to drive traffic to your website. Though, there are a number of reports (Google memo) have been outspread as guest blogging is no longer a reliable SEO tactic.

Hence, I agree to somewhat that, if guest blogging has not taken in the right context it does not work effectively. For instance, Google has warned not to post blog content on low quality websites. While doing so, you can generate spam links, which do not work in the long run and end the purpose of guest blogging.

Overall, if you consider the guidelines of search engine (Google) regarding guest blogging, you can effectively use this tactic for high-quality SEO. Let’s have a look on these guidelines.

Post only on relevant and high quality websites: If you want to use guest blogging as an effective SEO tactic, then post only on high-quality and expert websites. In addition, you must also consider the relevancy of the websites. For instance, if you are running a technology or telecommunication business, then Mashable tech section would be the best guest blogging website for you as it publishes content regarding technology and social media.

Contribute a high quality and unique content: You must publish original and relevant content on guest blogging sites that show a super value for your target audience. In this way, you can definitely resonate with the search engine standards about guest blogging.

Link valuable references and resources: Throughout the blog content, try to give meaningful insights on a blog topic. Hence, you can link your website to the blog content when it is necessary and when you want to introduce yourself as a guest blogger. Adding approximately 3-5 links is an effective tactic to boost the SEO of your website.

Develop Social Media Presence for Your Website

Modern SEO does not complete until you develop a social media presence for your website. So, you need to develop a social media presence on successful social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Tumblr etc.). While doing so, you can increase SEO of your website.

Confused, how it works? Let me clear you.
Very simple, when you create social media presence on social media sites, you automatically increase the amount of your business information. Consumers on social media sites can find that business information when they search. That’s why, social signals to a large extent impact how search engines crawl and index your website against the search keyword terms by searchers. So, search engines give high rankings to websites in organic results if they find a high level of social presence.

But you will have to make sure that these social pages are optimized as well as active for search. Optimized and active pages easily appear in organic results against the keywords. Besides, you have to link your business social pages to your website so that users can easily find your website.

Interlink and Cross-link Your Website

Interlinking and cross-linking (this post can be an example) is another successful SEO tactic that increase visit duration and page visits, and alternatively decrease bounce rate. Despite the fact that you can use several types of interlinks (footer links, navigation links, sidebar etc.), but contextual links (that lies within text body) would be the ideal selection to increase your product pages ranking.

While following this strategy, you have to create links within your blog posts or articles. Hence, these links assist websites to gain high rankings by Google on organic search results. Alongside, cross-linking helps visitors to read the relevant content that may assist them in solving their problems.

Contribute in Niche Forums or Create a Forum for Your Business!

In our previous post, we discussed why you should have a blog for your business. In this post, we want to discuss the importance of forum. Niche forums play an essential role from both SEO and Traffic angles. You can gain referral traffic to your website – simply, you have to contribute in niche forums by helping other forum members to find a solution of their problems. In this way, you can build a community in forum(s) and that community can get your business information from signature links or your profile. Contrary, if you do not wish to contribute and try to get as many back links as possible by posting irrelevant, unwanted, silly and Q&A type contents, you can be banned from those forums. Such behaviors will force forum webmaster(s) to ban your IP address – meaning you can’t log in or register from that IP address to that forum. Moreover, your email address along with IP address might be listed in “Stop Forum Spam” (they list well-known blog and forum spammers). So, I suggest you to contribute in niche forums in a meaningful way.

WordPress CSS Changes Not Updating

WordPress CSS Changes Not Updating – If you have a wordpress blog/website and you update something in style.css file you might notice that sometimes the update doesn’t show on your browsers instantly though you cleared your browser cookies. It happened to me several days ago when I tried to enlarge my blog posts font size.

Prior editing formats.css file to enlarge my blog posts font size I ensured that I needed to work on formats.css file, not the style.css file (my blog’s font size is defined in formats.css). I found this with the help of my chrome browser by selecting some words of a post and then clicking right mouse->Inspect element. Please check the following image. It showed me which file I needed to edit (in this case formats.css, not the style.css). You can see in the formats.css file, line-height was 22px and font-size was 14 px.

wordpress css changes not updating

After that I logged into my wordpress admin panel and went to Appearance->Editor section and clicked on formats.css file. I checked 204 line and made the changes. Here was the edit:

css edit

Please note, I changed line-height from 22px to 26 px and font size from 14px to 15px. Then I saved the file and cleared my browser cookies and refresh the page but I couldn’t see any differences. I did check on other browsers e.g. Firefox, IE, Safari but all were showing same old result. I was confused and searched on Google to find a solution. After reading some blog posts I found out that it was not the wordpress css issue. The issue was from my web hosting provider: Fatcow.com

Fatcow.com automatically enable web cache for any website that’s hosted on their server. Here was my website’s web cache status:

Default Cache Set Up in Fatcow Control Panel by SEO Blog

So if your website/blog is hosted on Fatcow then you have to make sure that you have turned caching off to see instant changes on your website after editing the style.css or formats.css file. A web cache is a system for the momentary storage (caching) of web files or documents, such as HTML web pages as well as graphics or images, to cut back server load, bandwidth usage, and perceived lag.

Please carefully read all the following steps as you will learn how to turn off the cache from your web hosting control panel.

Step 1: Go to Fatcow.com, click control panel and input your username, password to log in

Fatcow Control Panel Login by SEO Blog

Step 2: After the login process you need to find “Web Cache Control Tool“. You can find it under “Additional Tools” section, click on that icon.

Step 3: Now you need to check radio button (Under Don’t Cache) of HTML, CSS, Script, Images and then click on “Save Changes” button.

Turn Cache Off & Click on Save Changes by SEO Blog

Step 4: Clear your browser cookie.

Clear Browser Cache by SEO Blog

Step 5: Refresh the webpage. You will see the changes!

See how easy this is? I wasted 4-5 hours to find this solution and when I did I thought I should share this with you. Please turn on the cache from your web hosting control panel after you check the changes on your website as it will help your website to load faster for your website visitors who didn’t clear their browser cookies.

Hope you enjoy reading this post. If you find this helpful please feel free to share your experience in comments.

How Can I Claim My Website in Alexa for Free?

Today I tried to claim my website in alexa. So I simply visited alexa.com and in search box I wrote SEO-Service-Provider.Org and hit enter button to see what’s the status of my website in alexa. My company is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh and I was hoping to see my website would be ranked for Bangladesh. But surprisingly it is ranked for India! So it is mandatory to claim my website in alexa for free and fix the error. I immediately registered an account in alexa. After the email verification I logged into alexa with my email and password. Again I performed search for SEO-Service-Provider.org and I saw the following image:

Trying to claim my website in alexa

Then I clicked on “Certify your site’s metrics” link and it was showing me to upgrade my plan:

Upgrade plan in alexa

Please note, I didn’t install any code on the pages of my website. So something seemed not right there. As a result, I was playing with the tabs and I stopped at the “My Dashboard” tab, hoping that I would claim my site through this. But again I was getting “View Plans and Pricing” message while trying to add my site, it was forcing me to upgrade.

Alexa dashboard

Please note, earlier in Alexa, there was an INTRO “Free plan” package that a user could choose but there was no Free Plan option in Alexa anymore:

Choose Alexa Plan

So I checked support center and performed a search with this query “claim my website“. Fortunately, at that time I was in right place. So in order to claim your website you need to go to this address: http://www.alexa.com/siteowners/claim

Claim My Site search from Alexa support center

It seems Alexa indirectly forcing their users to upgrade their plan, hiding “claim your website” option under the “My Dashboard” or “Account Management” tabs. It would be lot easier for first time users to claim their website if it’s clearly visible under “My Dashboard” or “Account Management” tabs.

Anyway, here is the total process in brief to claim your website for free in Alexa:
1. Go to Alexa.com
2. Register an Account
3. After verifying your account please log in to your account. You can also login to alexa with your Facebook account details.
Alexa Login
4. Now visit this address: http://www.alexa.com/siteowners/claim
5. Enter your website URL and hit “continue” button.
6. On the next page you will see the following image:
Claim my website in alexa final steps
7. Choose either 1 or 2 in order to claim your website for free.
8. If you click on Method 1, you will have the option to download a file to your computer . Please download that file. After that upload the same file to your website’s root directory and click “Verify the file on your site” in 2nd step.
Verify the file on your site

9. Congratulation! Your site is successfully claimed in Alexa.
If you prefer Method 2 (if you don’t prefer Method 1), then click on Method 2 on step 7. You will see a meta tag verification code that you need to place on the section of your homepage HTML. After that, click on “Verify my ID” button.

Claim you site with method 2

Congratulation! Your site is successfully claimed in Alexa.
